Louis van Gaal is reviving Manchester United's interest in Southampton fullback Nathaniel Clyne. The Mirror says United tried to sign Clyne before he moved to Southampton in 2012 and have been hugely impressed with his progress at St Mary's.
United boss Van Gaal wants a top quality right back to bolster his defence and the 23-year-old would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford.
Clyne is establishing himself in the England set-up and has 18 months left on his current deal which leaves Southampton facing a battle to keep him.
Southampton are trying to persuade Clyne to sign a new deal to commit himself to the club otherwise they will have to take a decision on whether to sell.
Liverpool are also monitoring developments but United are very keen and are keeping close tabs.
