Valencia chief Murthy on player sales: I wanted to sell more!

Valencia chief Anil Murthy says he would happily have sold more players over the summer if given the chance.

Murthy and club owner Peter Lim have been slammed by fans and former players over the massive clearout performed before the start of the season.

But Murthy told Offthepitch: "We decided to take a sensible path. The best way to deal with it is to sell.

"Selling footballers reduces the cost of the team, the liquidity problems and we can use that liquid to pay the people when we owe them.

"There are salaries of players, staff, payments to Bankia, payments to suppliers ... And we can afford these payments because we have sold footballers.

"I wanted to sell more, but the market moved 20% of what it usually moves."
