Valencia captain Gaya: We know we must do better than last season

Valencia captain Jose Luis Gaya says the players know they cannot risk a campaign like last season.

Gaya insists the players know they have much to improve.

He said, "It's no use having a good preseason if you don't do well in the season opener. It's important to pick up the coach's concepts, and now we have had more time to work on them than last season.

"We're feeling good and we're also looking forward to playing in front of our fans on Saturday in the Trofeo Naranja.

"We've got experience after last year. The objective is obviously the game against Sevilla. We can't look at anything other than that game. We have the mentality of going for the three points in that game and in every game thereafter.

"The idea is to improve and to keep growing, and then we'll see. The mentality is to take things game by game and get better.

"It's obvious, and we all know it, that the squad needs to improve a lot. It's true that the kids have shown in preseason that they are ready, but we are all aware that we need signings. We are focused on what we can do, and we hope that the signings come."
