Trophyless Real Madrid still rake in bumper profit

Real Madrid's income increased last season, despite finishing the campaign trophyless. Their income in 2009-10 increased by 8.6 per cent from £335million to £363.5m.

Real said yesterday their net profit had risen 11.5 per cent to £19.7m and net debt had shrunk from £268.5m to £201m.

The club - now managed by former Chelsea chief Jose Mourinho - did not give a figure for total debt, estimated at £575m at the end of the 2008-9 season.
