Sydney FC goalkeepers battle for first team spot

Sydney FC goalkeepers Clint Bolton and Ivan Necevski have been hard at it all pre-season battling for a first team place.

With the arrival of new coach Vitezslav Lavicka, the duo have had to impress to win a place in this weekend's season opener (against North Queensland Fury), but a decision is still yet to be made.

When asked if the decision was a hard one, Lavicak replied with: ''Difficult and easy. Because both goalkeepers are equalised, both goalkeepers worked very hard all pre-season, we rotated them during the games, so it looks very well.

"We are happy with both of them, really. But, of course, I know how important it is to the mentality of a goalkeeper to play the first game of the season. It was the same in the Czech Republic, because it is a special post in the line-up."

Lavicka added that all players in the club were remaining positive and as one no matter the situation and was sure this mentality would hold up all season.

"Our philosophy is to stay unified, goalkeepers especially," he added.

"They are very friendly to each other, they work very hard together and they give support to each other during games, so I have a good feeling from both goalkeepers at the moment. I trust them and I am sure this feeling will continue."
