Switzerland coach Yakin: We had to rebuild Sommer after Bayern Munich mud

Switzerland coach Murat Yakin has slammed Bayern Munich over their treatment of Yann Sommer.

The Swiss goalkeeper left Bayern last month to sign for Inter Milan.

Yakin told Sport1: “I know Yann very well, I had him with me in Basel. His time at Bayern did not come unscathed. He needs basic confidence to be able to perform at 100 percent.

"Yann was dragged by a slingshot of mud. He didn't deserve that. He became a victim of a mechanism that only occurs at Bayern. When he came to the national team, of course I spoke to him. That was not the Yann as I know him.

"At Bayern he was under extreme pressure, which he finally resisted .But that also showed that he is a strong goalkeeper. And we did it through our goalkeeper coach."

He added: "The Bayern thing didn't just rebound on Yann. He felt the support from a sporting point of view, but something was missing. He didn't leave it without a trace. All the criticism really took its toll on him. I did not understand this.

"They knew Yann and knew who to turn to. He has shown what he can do. And he never complained. The time at Bayern was not easy for Yann, he had to fight with that,"
