'Surprised' Arsenal lean towards Balogun sale

Arsenal are leaning towards selling Folarin Balogun at the end of the season.

The Sun says Balogun, 21, is the leading goalscorer in Ligue 1 with 14 goals for Reims, more than Paris Saint-Germain superstars Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

The Gunners did not anticipate the striker being so prolific when they agreed to loan him to the French club.

But Reims' English manager Will Still has been so impressed with the England Under-21 international that he asked if they could sign him on a permanent deal last month.

That request was rebuffed by the North Londoners, who have still not decided what to do with Balogun or whether he plays a part in Mikel Arteta's long-term plans.

But with only 18 months remaining on his contract, they will either have to hand Balogun a lengthy new deal at the end of the season or sell him for maximum profit.
