Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe retains hope of playing for England again.
Defoe admits he still has ambitions to play for his country again.
"I never once said that I don't want to play for my country; I never retired," he said.
"I've not spoken to him (Roy Hodgson) because I don't feel like I need to speak to him. I feel all I need to do is make sure I have a good pre-season, score goals, and then we'll see what happens.
"I still feel I've got a lot to offer for England. I still feel I can score goals at that level, and if you get the chances you'll score, it's as simple as that."
