Sunderland's ownership will be settled at the end of the season, says chairman Niall Quinn.
Majority owner Ellis Short will meet Quinn and the remaining Irish contingent in the summer to discuss future investment in the club and top-flight survival may decide whether he takes control.
Quinn said: "The club is effectively run by an executive board at the minute. We're on a holding pattern now and if everything goes well and we're in the Premier League next season, then the Drumaville boys and Ellis will sort everything out."
