Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is eager to help Connor Wickham realise his potential.
Poyet hopes he has finally found the key to unlocking the big frontman's undoubted potential.
"I'm pleased for Connor in how well he did against City and pleased for myself too," said the Black Cats' boss. "I think it's important he realises what he can achieve.
"I think if we play the system we played against City and it suits him and he takes confidence from it then he can benefit from it.
"For him to progress I think needs a couple of things to happen, I think it's a combination.
"I think first we have to make sure we give him the delivery and second that he has to believe in what he does.
"We need Connor to decide that from now on he is going to be a Premier League standard player and produce consistently."
