Strootman: I offered to play for Roma for nothing

Kevin Strootman admits he wanted to return to AS Roma last season.

The Dutchman is currently with Cagliari in Serie B.

"Last year I tried to return to Rome, even for free, but they didn't want me," Strootman told Il Messaggero.

"I left because there were no longer the conditions to continue. They were taking midfielders and I wondered what would happen to me. Monchi told me I was non-transferable, but (Rudi) Garcia called me from Marseille, I stalled and in the meantime I learned that Monchi had already agreed the price with OM. It wasn't honest.

"I spoke about it with (Eusebio) Di Francesco and his reaction was not that of someone who he would have held onto me at all costs. I didn't have good sensations, I played in Torino and then we decided to separate.

"What was I left to do if I was no longer accepted?"
