Sporting Kansas City continue with Collin contract talks

Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes insists the club remains in contract talks with Aurelien Collin.

The French defender is out of contract with SKC after a successful four seasons with the MLS club and although Collin is yet to sign a new deal, Vermes says there is continual dialogue regarding a new deal for the three-time All-Star.

However, Vermes also intimated that perhaps it could be quite a task in holding down Collin who joined Sporting from Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal in 2011.

"We've offered I don't know how many different proposals, to no success," Vermes offered.

"In the end, he could end up becoming a (salary) cap casualty."

He added: "I'm not saying it's always good but there's definitely banter back and forth."

SKC will be hoping they can secure the signature of Collin as soon as possible so they can avoid losing the centre-back who helped guide them to glory in the 2013 MLS Cup with a MVP performance in the final last year.
