Spain coach De la Fuente on Real Madrid midfielder Diaz: I selected him in three different teams

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente says he understands Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz's decision to commit to Morocco.

A former Spain youth international, Diaz is now accepting a call from Morocco.

De la Fuente said: "There is nothing more important than doing something freely, convinced that you want to do it and with a sense of belonging. That gives you your strength from where you don't have it anyway. Putting conditions or demands is not a good starting point.

"I respect his position. Each one is free to make the decisions they have to make. There are three maxims to be a selectable player: that you can play, that you want to play and that the coach selects you; but the most important is to want without demands or conditions. You have to have equal rights and obligations than with the rest. With that starting point you will always find me.

"I have not spoken to him. I summon or not, and people then do what they have to do. Brahim has been with me, surely I am the one who has selected him the most. Two Euros U19, U21 and senior... I have a lot of appreciation for him, but each one is free to make the decisions he makes."
