England coach Gareth Southgate has assured Harry Maguire of his Three Lions status as he struggles for minutes at Manchester United.

Southgate has already contacted the 29-year-old and told him his place won't be affected by a lack of game time for his club, says The Sun.

They report that in Southgate's view, Maguire has plenty of credit in the bank from his 46 previous England appearances and that he will be part of his plans for Qatar.

Maguire is likely to be called up by Erik ten Hag sooner or later given United begin their UEFA Europa League campaign against Real Sociedad on Thursday, meaning a more intense schedule.

The defender will hope to feature for England when they conclude their UEFA Nations League campaign with matches against Italy in Milan on September 23 and against Germany at Wembley three days later.
