Socceroos to meet Paraguay in international friendly

The Australian national team will take on South American nation Paraguay in an international friendly in October. The clash between the Socceroos and La Albirroja will take place at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday October with kick-off at 8:00pm AEDT.

Football Federation Australia CEO Ben Buckley announced the match today and was excited about having this year's World Cup quarter-finalists in town.

"This is a great opportunity to be part of the official welcome home for the Qantas Socceroos after the FIFA World Cup in South Africa," Buckley said.

"It will be the only time the national team will play in Australia for the rest of this year so I urge all Socceroos fans to get in early and get their tickets so they are not disappointed.

"It should be a fantastic match as Paraguay is a top quality opponent as shown by the fact the team reached the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup before losing to eventual winners Spain.

"This exciting clash will give the Qantas Socceroos the chance to benchmark themselves against first class opposition as they prepare for the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar in January and most likely with a new coach at the helm."
