Sir Alex Ferguson was behind Manchester United's offer to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ferguson personally recommended United to move for Trapp, according to Sport1.
It is suggested the former United manager was behind their contract offer to Trapp.
The channel claim: “Ferguson was suggested by his contacts in Germany in the summer to take a closer look at Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp.
“And what the 'Sir' got to see was quite convincing… if Ferguson believes in a player's quality, then he will assist in a transfer. He then tries to free up the necessary funds from the Glazer family."
Trapp announced this morning he had rejected United's proposal.
