Sheffield Wednesday move for Newcastle's Carroll

Sheffield Wednesday are chasing Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.

The Evening Chronicle says Wednesday's Geordie boss Brian Laws has joined the queue of Championship sides, which also include Hull City and Ipswich Town, who would love the tall striker on loan before Saturday's kick-off.

And it's something that United boss Sam Allardyce, who has already farmed out promising young keeper Tim Krul on loan to Falkirk, will have to chew over.

Big Sam has found himself with no fewer than SEVEN strikers in Michael Owen, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka, Alan Smith, Shola Ameobi, Albert Luque and Carroll to choose from, and the United boss will find it hard to keep them all happy.
