Sheffield Utd boss Wilder held Christmas Eve transfer summit with Lingard discussed

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was holding transfer talks with the board yesterday.

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is a player he has already spoken to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about and he says that is exactly the type of player United have to sign when the window opens in eight days' time.

"I am looking for arrivals that make the team better in January," he told Yorkshire Live.

"I have got a meeting with the chief exec this afternoon and Paul (Mitchell).

"We are constantly on the phone talking about targets and checking availability and the finer details.

"I believe that we should bring a couple of players in and from a negotiation part it's a level above me to hopefully reach agreements.

"It's always a huge challenge from a budget situation to assemble a squad and we have seen we have to wheel and deal, polish a few up and you have seen examples of that.

"But now is the time for me to bring players in that go straight in and improve the team and the board and the owner understand that.

"We are looking in a couple of positions - it's not going to be three or four but will be in positions that will give us a spark and make us better.

"There's a few players out there and we have enquired about a few.

"There is always an appetite from me to get it done straight away. I would love to get two players in on January 1 and get them into the group."
