Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw concedes his new contract would've been "impossible" a year ago.
United moved quickly to tie Shaw down on a five-year deal, with the option of extending that into a sixth season. He signed the contract, worth way in excess of £150,000 a week, at Carrington on Thursday. If it is seen out, the deal is thought to be worth up to £50million in total.
Shaw said: "If you look at my situation in the last year, you would have thought this would have been impossible.
"But I worked hard and I wanted to make sure my future was here and to help this club, so I am really happy.
"It's been an odd five years for me. There have been ups and downs but now it is all about looking forward.
"It's only a matter of time for the success to come back. We have an amazing group of players and the talent we have is scary."
