Freddie Ljungberg was named the MLS Player of the Week after figuring prominently in all three goals against Kansas City it was reported on mlsnet.com.

Two of the goals resulted from Ljungberg corner kicks. His shot directly from a corner in the 27th minute forced a save from Wizards keeper Kevin Hartman, and Tyrone Marshall scored on the rebound.

Ljungberg's corner in the 69th minute sparked the Sounders FC comeback, as Roger Levesque headed in at the far post to make it 2-2. On the game's deciding goal, Ljungberg stripped a defender in the corner, broke into the box and then delivered a low ball for Nate Jaqua to bury at the near post in the 76th.

It was Ljungberg's second assist of the match and his fourth game-winning assist of the season-tying him for the MLS lead. His seven assists tie him for the team lead and eighth in the league.

Two other balls from Ljungberg produced shots which required Hartman saves. First came a cross to Fredy Montero in the 6th minute, then he fed Steve Zakuani in the second half for a low drive which Hartman stopped with his feet. Ljungberg's defense-splitting pass in the 31st minute was taken by Zakuani, whose subsequent chip clipped the crossbar.

Ljungberg becomes the fourth Sounders FC player to earn player of the week, joining Fredy Montero (Week 1), Kasey Keller (Week 2) and Nate Jaqua (Week 15).
