Quique Sanchez Flores says Real Madrid need to take their time in appointing a new coach.

Sanchez Flores is a former Real player and coach of Espanyol, Valencia and Atletico Madrid.

He told Radio Marca: "You have to know the depths of Real Madrid to understand its greatness.

"Perhaps it is a year of transition for the team."

Sanchez Flores says the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus cannot be underestimated.

"Real Madrid can still compete, but perhaps it's fallen back because it has lost a player synonymous with goals and entertainment."
