Former St Etienne academy chief Philippe Guillemet Philippe Guillemet says William Saliba did have doubts after returning to Arsenal last year.

Guillemet admits Saliba was having second thoughts after a successful loan with Olynpique Marseille.

He told the Athletic: "He loved Marseille. It was a fantastic year.

“Speaking to people close to him, he had doubts about Arsenal because there were some issues between him and the coach. Now he is happy in London."

Indeed, there is now confidence inside Arsenal that Saliba will pen a new deal. The defender's current contract has a year to run.
