Ryan Bertrand hoping Villa spell will realise his Chelsea and England hopes

Chelsea fullback Ryan Bertrand hopes his loan move to Aston Villa will realise his England hopes.

The 24-year-old has gone to Aston Villa on loan in a bid to catch the eye of Jose Mourinho and Roy Hodgson.

Bertrand said: "There's two sides of being in competition with a fantastic player like Ashley (Cole).

"On the one hand, you have someone who is so fantastic and you can learn off them which is so beneficial.

"But as time goes along it can get something of a hindrance. There's no animosity between us - the decision is out of our hands.

"I am never happy just sitting there doing nothing. You are always happier when you are playing.

"I just wanted to get it into my hands. The most important thing is to be playing. I feel I'm at a crucial age now where I have to be playing."
