Rooney unhappy with Birmingham dismissal: 13 weeks not long enough

Manchester United hero Wayne Rooney has released a statement after being sacked by Birmingham City.

Rooney was dismissed today and insists he wasn't given enough time.

He posted to social media: "I would like to thank Tom Wagner, Tom Brady and Garry Cook for the opportunity to lead Birmingham City and the support they have given me during my short time at the club.

"Football is a results-oriented business, and I admit that we have not been at the level that I wanted.

"But time is the most precious thing as a manager, and I don't think 13 weeks was enough to see the changes that were needed.

"It will take some time before I get over this setback.

"I have been involved in professional football as a player or manager since I was 16 years old.

"Now I want to use my time to be with my family while I prepare for the next opportunity in my journey as a manager.

"Finally, I wish Birmingham City and its owners the best."
