Romero performed admirably in Man Utd debut - Johnstone

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has praised new signing Sergio Romero for his debut performance against Tottenham.

Following David De Gea's omission from the squad, Johnstone was tipped to make his first team debut against Spurs at Old Trafford on Saturday, but Louis van Gaal ultimately decided to go with the experience of the Argentina international.

Johnstonn said: "I thought he did well.

"No matter how much experience he has got, it's not easy to come in and play in the first game of the season at Old Trafford when he's only been here two weeks and hadn't played a game."

Romero moved to United in a free transfer from Italian club Sampdoria earlier this summer.
