Watford are close to making the first signing of new manager Javi Gracia's reign in charge at the club.

Gracia took over from Marco Silva, after the latter was sacked due to a poor run of results that has dragged Watford into the relegation dogfight.

It will take an impressive upturn in performances to keep Watford in the Premier League, and Gracia should be able to call on added fire power in the coming days.

A deal to bring the Roma striker Gregorie Defrel is very close, with a loan move the most likely solution that will suit all parties.

Defrel wants more games, as he is out of favour in Rome. While the club would be happy to sell, they are aware that a loan is the best way for him to put himself in the shop window.

And Watford do not want to take on more wages that would hamper them if they are relegated. A loan move suits all parties.
