Roma defender Kostas Manolas: Match officials were shameful

AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas blasted the match officials after their Champions League defeat to Porto.

The Giallorossi lost 3-1 on the night, 4-3 on aggregate, after VAR was used to award a penalty to the hosts for a shirt tug.

Moments later, Patrik Schick seemed to be tripped from behind by Moussa Marega, but referee Cuneyt Cakir didn't even view the footage back.

“We gave our all, we played well and at the end of the day we could've certainly scored on two or three occasions for 2-2. They gave a penalty against us, but didn't award one in our favour and the referee didn't even go to view it on VAR," Manolas told Sky Sport Italia.

“That, to me, is shameful. You can't knock a team out like that. He said the VAR told him there was nothing, but there is clear contact, you can see it. I don't understand.

“Last season there were two penalties we weren't awarded against Liverpool and they apologised to us, but now there is VAR and you have to go and see it. There are no excuses."
