Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes David de Gea needs to take time off from the game.
The Manchester United keeper has been dropped by Spain coach Luis Enrique in favour of Chelsea No1 Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Robinson told Bein Sport, "That also has to do with the shape that De Gea has shown at the end of the season.
"Kepa already had playing time against Malta and the Faroe Islands, but then you think the coach does that to give him some playing time.
“This is a big competition in their squad. This is a competition where the coach selects his best eleven players. This is just his best eleven. He now clearly thinks that Kepa, perhaps with his mindset, is a better choice. Maybe De Gea just needs some rest, given the season he has had.
“He has become Player of the Year at Manchester United in recent seasons. He has been fantastic, but we also recently saw some mistakes that cost points. He is not normally like that. The coach probably thinks he needs some rest. He has to get out of the front line. And Kepa is in good shape."
