REVEALED: Xabi's Bayer Leverkusen contract carries escape option for three clubs

The contract of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso carries an escape clause for three clubs, it has been revealed.

Xabi is building an impressive reputation at Bayer, where he is now in his third season in charge.

Currently contracted with Bayer to 2026, Xabi can leave next summer for one of three clubs for a set fee, says BILD.

The three clubs in question are Liverpool, Bayern and Real Madrid - all of which Xabi played for during his career.

However, former Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has urged Xabi not to rush: "It is difficult to say no to Real Madrid if there is really an offer, but my advice to Xabi is: stay at Leverkusen until 2025.

"I think he should give the club back the opportunity to work as a first coach in the Bundesliga. He is still young and can gain a lot of experience here and leave something big. That is why I advise him not to leave after this season, but to stay at least one more year."
