Sunderland boss Gus Poyet passed on the chance of signing CD Nacional striker Mario Rondon over the summer.
tribalfootball.com can confirm Rondon was offered to Poyet by his representatives, but the Uruguayan, after consideration, decided to pass up the chance to sign the Venezuela international.
It's understood Poyet, at the time, was still hopeful of a positive response from Liverpool striker Fabio Borini.
Rondon, 28, feels January is the right time to leave Nacional and hopes to move to the Premier League.
"My dream was to play in one of these leagues (England or Spain) and I believe that I am next to fulfill this objective," he stated this week.
