Barcelona have put in a call to former defender Javier Mascherano.

With Gerard Pique's season now likely over due to a knee injury, Barca have sought to bring Mascherano back from Argentina.

The veteran has just announced his retirement while while with Estudiantes.

And Okdiario's chief pundit Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito, revealed Barça called Mascherano about replacing Piqué for the remainder of the season.

However, he rejected the approach.
