Liverpool were not initially planning to move for Cody Gakpo this January.
The ex-PSV Eindhoven star is now a Red, signing for Jurgen Klopp's team at the very start of the January transfer window.
Gakpo, who shone at the World Cup, was also subject of interest from Manchester United.
Per the Liverpool Echo, the Reds had to push for Gakpo in January as they feared another team signing him this month.
Their fear was that if they waited until the summer, as was their ideal plan, Gakpo would have already moved to a top club.
Jurgen Klopp will be pleased to have gotten his man, especially as he has injury concerns across his forward line at present.
