Ref chiefs investigate VAR leak from Real Madrid defeat of Almeria

The Technical Committee of Referees has launched an investigation into the leaks of the VAR recordings from Real Madrid's 3-2 win against Almeria.

Almeria were 2-0 up before Real eventually won thanks to three significant VAR interventions.

In the first leaked conversation, the VAR and field referee talked about the action in which Vinicius struck Pozo in the area. An action in which Almería claimed a red card for the Brazilian, but which was finally only checked by the VAR and not on the monitor.

“Possible foul in attack, I want to see it, a little further back," said Alejandro Jose Hernández Hernández in the VAR room. And he continued: “Wow, I want to see it in the short." Francisco Jose Hernández Maeso, who was on the field, added: “For me nothing, a struggle between the two, he complains about his face."

In the middle of the review, Hernández Hernández tells him what he is seeing in the images: “Yes, when he is going to take it off, with his arm, when he strokes it it hits him, he is going to take it out of the way and it hits him on the face, okay?"

But, then, without adding more about said action, he cuts off the review: “Let's go live."

In the end, the VAR did not recommend the review of said action because it was not understood as aggression, but rather as a reckless action that, if sanctioned, would only be a yellow card. Understanding that he was not issuing red, the VAR could not call his teammate to the monitor. The referee would only have been sent to the screen if said play had ended in a goal (as happened with Jude Bellingham in Sergio Arribas' goal).
