Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to buy defenders if he's to stay with Manchester United next season.

Though Solskjaer has overseen an incredible record of 14 wins from 17 games in all competitions so far, Redknapp warns improvements need to be made at Old Trafford this summer if they are to challenge once again at the top.

“For me, they will need to improve defensively if they want to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool next season. There's still a big difference in quality," he said.

"And they may need to improve the midfield this summer too in order to support players like Paul Pogba.

“But look, Ole has come in and they all seem to love playing for him.

“If they didn't give him the job, the fans would go absolutely mad. He has to get it now."
