Real Sociedad made late move to trump Arsenal for Benfica wing-back Nuno Tavares

Real Sociedad made a late move to trump Arsenal for Benfica wing-back Nuno Tavares.

The Daily Mail says Real Sociedad have failed with a last-minute attempt to hijack Arsenal's swoop for Tavares.

The Gunners are on the verge of completing a £7million deal for the versatile full-back, with the move expected to be completed in the coming days.

But LaLiga club Sociedad came in with a last-ditch attempt to scupper the move after making a proposal, understood to be more substantial than Arsenal's, to Tavares over the last few days.

ortuguese agent Cesar Boaventura and UK-based agency Sync Global played a key role in ensuring Tavares' transfer closed with Arsenal instead of Sociedad.

Despite Sociedad's offer being more lucrative, Boaventura moved quickly to ensure the deal for Tavares to join Arsenal remained on course.
