Real Madrid president Florentino held crunch 90-minute summit with Ancelotti

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is standing by coach Carlo Ancelotti after Sunday's home humiliation to Barcelona.

Marca says Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino had a 90-minute meeting at Valdebebas this Friday, with a number of Real Madrid's players away on international duty.

The meeting followed last weekend's 4-0 hammering at the hands of Barcelona in El Clasico. The president expressed his complete support of the coach, despite the criticism the Italian has faced since the loss to the Catalans.

Florentino praised Ancelotti's work so far this season, and gave him his complete backing ahead of the run-in both domestically and in Europe, with Los Blancos closing in on the LaLiga Santander title and still being in the running for Champions League success as well.

The nature of the loss against Barcelona naturally brought a period of reflection at the club, but the president has no doubts about who he wants to lead the club through the remainder of the season.

Having won the Supercopa de Espana in Jeddah, Ancelotti's side boast a nine-point lead atop LaLiga Santander, and look set to be crowned Spanish champions this May.

Los Blancos play Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals on April 6 and 12, hoping to send the current European and world champions packing.
