Real Madrid great Hugo Sanchez says coach Zinedine Zidane should not be axed.
Qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League is at risk after the defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tusday, but Zidane has insisted that he won't step down.
Sanchez is also keen to stress that time has not run out and he thinks it is too early to talk about showing the Frenchman the door.
"No, I don't think so yet; it would be very hasty right now," Sanchez said on ESPN.
"You have to wait until after the remaining [Champions League group] game, which is complicated by being dependent on others. There will be a certain pressure, nervousness and obviously waiting for the result against Borussia Monchengladbach, too."
That nervousness is something Sanchez has spotted in Zidane and he admits there have been serious questions asked of him and his players.
"There have been serious criticisms of Zidane," said Sanchez.
"He is bearing it stoically, but I note his nervousness because his players aren't rising to the expectations placed upon Real Madrid players."
