Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois launches new attack on Tedesco: Abuse of trust

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has announced he won't make Belgium's Euros campaign.

Courtois is recovering from knee surgery he underwent at the beginning of the season.

He told Sporza: "Due to injury, for me there will be no European Championship. First I have to recover the one hundred percent complete and then better not set a date. If I'm lucky, I can play another game in May. But you can never be 100% prepared for a great tournament."

Courtos also spoke about the controversy generated after he left the Belgium squad after an argument with his coach, Domenico Tedesco.

"Well, first I would like to apologise for that. It was a wrong decision to leave after the match against Austria. I would like to apologise to the team and especially to the fans. I think those two groups were the most surprised. Therefore: 100% my apologies and I am sorry.

"I want to make it clear that it had nothing to do with the captaincy. The whole story has many more nuances than that. Many spoke of having their glory minute, but few were interested in my side of the story.

"On Saturday of the game, a few hours before the start, Tedesco called us Lukaku and me. When he said that Romelu was captain against Austria and I was captain against Estonia on Tuesday, something broke inside me. It didn't work anymore. The fact that I no longer felt the appreciation of the federation or the coach made something explode within me.

"Actually, Tedesco explained to me in seven different versions why Romelu was captain. It was different every time: once he decided on Thursday, then on Friday, then the day after the final..."

Courtois also revealed that Tedesco threatened to tell the press everything.

"The coach made no effort to find a solution, he simply said he would tell the press everything. He wanted to pressure me not to leave and threaten me. That is simply not possible, because it was a private conversation. There was an abuse of trust between the player and the coach.

"The national coach did not speak to me even once. Or yes, a minute before a training session to ask how things were going in Madrid, that's all. Then I already felt that something strange was happening."
