Real Madrid defender David Alaba says he understands Casemiro's decision to leave for Manchester United.

Alaba admits speaking regularly with Casemiro about his situation ahead of his departure.

The former Bayern Munich defender said, “I was in a similar situation to mine a year ago. That's why we talk about it a lot.

"After nine years at Real Madrid, he was looking for a new challenge. I wish him the best with all my heart."

Alaba was also asked about the prospect of eventually returning home to junior club Austria Vienna.

He said, “Austria Vienna is the club of my heart. I am very grateful to the club. It was clear that I would help in difficult times. I follow Austria Vienna intensely: I watch the matches and communicate with the people there. But that is still a long way off for me.

"I don't look that far into the future. I still don't know what will happen in a few years or when I finish my career."
