Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Nacho after his red card at the end of victory at Girona.

With the game wrapped up, Nacho wsa shown a red card in injury-time for an ugly challenge on Girona striker Portu.

"Nacho was not thinking clearly," Ancelotti said.

"It could have been avoided, we're sorry and he has apologised. Hopefully it's not serious. He is very hurt and sad. Nobody should have any doubts about him. He is usually a player who does things right."

Portu was taken to hospital after the match.
