Rangers boss Smith shrugs off fiery Darcheville antics

Rangers boss Walter Smith brushed off the fiery home debut of Jean-Claude Darcheville in yesterday's 1-1 friendly draw against Ajax.

Darcheville again impressed as an imposing and speedy element of the attack with his Ibrox debut, yet became involved in an angry clash almost identical to one in the friendly with Hannover 96 last week. A crude challenge from George Ogararu, the Ajax midfielder, late in the first half provoked a furious response from the former Bordeaux player, who was booked by Kenny Clark for raising his hands to his opponent.

"Do you want me to buy someone who doesn't bother?" replied Smith when asked about Darcheville's temperament. "If the lad bothers enough then I'm happy. He has been struggling a little bit with an Achilles injury but he wants to continue playing. I've no concerns over anything else because he is an experienced player. Last season, I think Rangers were roundly criticised for not having enough passion in their game."
