Rangers boss Walter Smith is eager to see striker Kris Boyd to sign a new deal.

He said: "Kris has been offered a new contract but I don't know what stage they are at in negotiations.

"Nowadays managers don't really get involved - we only get brought in if there are problems.

"Kris is going through a stage like every other striker but he's been top scorer in Scotland for the last three years.

"In terms of finishing he is a victim of his own high standards. He makes no bones about it - he's a goalscorer and they always go through wee awkward patches."
