Pellissier unimpressed Italy going with Genoa striker Retegui

Former Serie A striker Sergio Pellissier has questioned Italy's selection of Genoa centre-forward Mateo Retegui.

Born and raised in Argentina, Retegui qualifies for Italy through his family and was first capped last year without ever playing outside of Argentina.

Pellissier, now president of Clivense, told TeleRadioStereo: "I believe that Italy has always had great players in all roles. If we start hiring players from abroad because we can't find any here, I think the motivation must be understood.

"Currently there are no forwards of the calibre of the '90s and in the early 2000s, when you had a very strong forward fleet, alas for me.

"Now the only striker still complete was (Ciro) Immobile but in the national team he is unable to do what he knows how to do, but otherwise there are no first strikers who continually score goals."
