Pantelis excited about new Adelaide United squad

Adelaide United vice-captain Lucas Pantelis is excited about the strengthened squad at the club.

The 28-year old, who is preparing for Wednesday night's third Asian Champions League group stage match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima, says the addition of Argentine midfielder Marcos Flores, Dutch striker Sergio van Dijk plus defenders Nigel Boogaard and Adam Griffiths has the Reds in a very strong position for both the current ACL campaign and the next A-League season.

"It is good just knowing we were going to have a very strong squad next year," said Pantelis.

"We did play some good football last season but didn't get the results.

"With the addition of these players we can only go one way north up the ladder.

"The main core of our players is there but obviously players like Flores, Boogaard and Adam Griffiths add a different dimension of play for us. They are very experienced but are still youngish as well."

And Pantelis, who is a foundation player at the club, said he was delighted to recently sign a new two-year deal that would keep him at the club for a few more seasons.

"It is good to be a part of a club since day one. I am really happy. The club is awesome and if you look at the whole package, Adelaide seemed to fit again," he added.
