Palmeiras president Pereira explains keeping Danilo from Arsenal; leaves door open

Palmeiras president Leila Pereira says there was no chance of Arsenal signing Danilo this past summer.

The Gunners reportedly offered £20million for the uncapped Brazilian - one of several midfielders linked to the Emirates over the summer.

Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Lyon were also thought to be keen on the 21-year-old.

But Pereira said: "Regarding Danilo, I said he wasn't going to leave and he didn't.

“I'll tell you - players of this size, important in the history of Palmeiras, I don't make decisions alone.

"I always consult our coach, coaching staff. If my coach says he can't lose the player under any circumstances, he doesn't leave."

But the Gunners are still tipped by many to come back in for Danilo.

And Pereira admitted an "offer too good to refuse" could eventually lure him away.

But Danilo is said to have a release clause of 100million euros - about £86m.
