Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has defended Gigio Donnarumma.

The PSG keeper is underfire for his form with the Azzurri.

Pagliuca told Libero: "He's a great goalkeeper who was the victim of a denigrating press campaign. Especially from some Milanese newspapers. They are massacring him because they want to make him pay for the fact that he preferred PSG's money to Milan.

"I ask you: today how many flags are there in football?

"Gigio is super and is only 23, an age at which uncertainties can be forgiven. We are talking about a goalkeeper of enormous quality. I launch a slogan: save soldier Donnarumma."

For Pagliuca, the situation is reversed when it comes to AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan: "He is doing less well than in the first year, but he is protected by the press."
