Nunez to trigger first bumper Liverpool bonus due Benfica against Man City

Liverpool will be coughing up a cool €5m when Darwin Nunez faces Manchester City this weekend.

Liverpool splashed out €75m up front for the Uruguay international striker in the summer window, but the transfer included a number of add-ons that are set to be triggered over the next few years.

The first of these could be triggered as early as next week when Liverpool play host to Pep Guardiola's champions Man City, after a mid-week trip to Glasgow to take on Rangers in the Champions League.

Nunez has so far made eight competitive appearances for the Reds this season. Should he feature against both Rangers and City, then he will have hit his first milestone in a Reds shirt - 10 games played - which will trigger the need for Liverpool to pay Benfica an add-on fee.

Record says Benfica are owed a total of €25m from the Reds. €5m will be paid after Nunez plays 10 games for the Reds, which is likely to be triggered at the weekend. Liverpool will later have to splash out €10m after the striker makes 60 appearances.

The remaining €10m owed to Benfica will depend on performance-related objectives, both individual and collective, being achieved. The exact details of what these consist of are unknown.
