Newport defender Delaney: Man Utd FA Cup clash biggest moment of career

Newport County defender Ryan Delaney admits today's FA Cup clash with Manchester United will be one of the biggest moments of his career.

The Irishman grew up as a United fan.

He told the Sunday World: “When you are a kid growing up in Ireland, you probably feel like you are a million miles away from playing against the team you have always supported.

“Thankfully, this opportunity has come around for me to play United and you have to enjoy it, but there is a job to be done as well.

“We know this is a special game and I've had so many requests for tickets. You have to sort out your close friends and family first and a few people have missed out, but that's the way it goes with a game as big as this.

“What we are determined to do is give a good account of ourselves. We want to leave everything on that pitch and see where it takes us."

He also said: “They play in the Premier League, Champions League and for their countries, so they will not be surprised. They will know what to expect here, so I'm sure they will be ready for it.

“What we have to try and do is treat it as another game. We have to look at it like that, even if that is difficult when you are playing Manchester United.

“And it is a game that can change the season around for us and bring everyone in the club and the town around us. Hopefully, we can use this as a springboard to looking up the table and finishing the season on a high.

“All of us here feel we have a squad here that should be challenging higher up the table but we have shown in the last few weeks that we can nick a few more results in the kind of matches where we were dropping points at the start of the season."
