Daryl Janmaat admits he turned down Serie A interest to sign for Newcastle United.
Newcastle fans were delighted to see the attack minded Dutch full-back sign on the dotted line.
However, it has emerged he turned down the chance of playing in the Champions League to sign for the Magpies.
He said on arrival: "There was some interest from Italian clubs.
"But when I heard from Newcastle my feeling was it was perfect."
Janmaat had also been linked with Everton and Liverpool in the last 12 months, but was happy to be on board at United.
He said: "It is a fantastic day for me. When I saw the stadium there were a lot of things here, I'm happy. It is a really nice stadium. I've heard a lot from Tim Krul. I'm really impressed. The fans are also fantastic.
"I'm looking forward to playing here."
