New Spain coach Luis de la Fuente says Barcelona pair Gavi and Eric Garcia will be a cornerstone of his team.

De la Fuente, coach of the U19s and U21s previously, as well as the Olympic side last summer, replaces Luis Enrique after the World Cup elimination to Morocco in the last 16.

He said of the Barca pair: "We are lucky that there are players like Gavi who jump barriers.

"He has so much potential that he has developed at spectacular speed. He's an important footballer that I'm going to be lucky enough to coach now. As for Eric, I think he's a fantastic footballer who fits perfectly into our model.

"Perhaps, at some point, he was put under too much pressure, but he is a footballer who, with peace of mind and maturity, will perform much better."
